Joint faculty members are affiliated with Chemistry in a research role. These professors support the teaching and research missions of the University in their prime departments, and participate in the Chemistry Department research mission directly. They often mentor graduate students, guiding them in their dissertation research. Rarely these professors teach courses in the Chemistry Department; primarily they focus on teaching courses in their home departments. Through the inclusion of joint faculty members, the Chemistry Department is able to support interdisciplinary research on the borders of Chemistry and other sciences, including Biology, Medicine, Engineering, and more.
