WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY IN ST. LOUIS, Department of Chemistry – Assistant/Associate Level

The Department of Chemistry at Washington University in St. Louis invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of assistant professor or associate professor. We invite applicants in all areas of chemistry, broadly defined (e.g., analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical biology, inorganic chemistry, nuclear chemistry, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, radiochemistry, theoretical chemistry, etc.). Candidates with interdisciplinary research interests are welcomed. A Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related field is required at the time of appointment. Candidates for the rank of associate professor should have an outstanding academic record of research, publication, teaching, and service commensurate with tenure at that rank. The duties of the position include conducting research, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, obtaining extramural research support, teaching courses, advising students, performing assigned committee work, and participating in university service. The development and maintenance of an outstanding research program is expected.

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Prof. Yan Yu will join Washington University in St. Louis as the Art Krieg Professor of Chemistry and of Biomedical Engineering in July 2025, from Indiana University. The Yu laboratory is recruiting two postdoc fellows to lead projects centered at the interface of biophysics, membrane biology, immunology, and nanoengineering.

Faculty Assistant I

The Faculty Assistant will supervise undergraduate students in General Chemistry or Organic Chemistry Laboratories, including grading, laboratory maintenance, development of experiments, and other administrative duties. The Faculty Assistant will assist the instructor of the course, in any manner requested, to facilitate the teaching and supervision of the undergraduate students enrolled in the course.

Senior Laboratory Preparation Specialist

The Senior Laboratory Preparation Specialist is responsible for making sure that the reagents, equipment, and materials are prepared properly for 750+ students enrolled in the General Chemistry Laboratory every semester. The position requires excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, time management skills, dedication to safety, and safety compliance and waste handling regulations.
