The WashU Chemistry Peer Safety Committee (PSC) has received the Outstanding ACS Student Community Award for the 2023-2024 academic year. This award comes in recognition of PCS's innovative activities, leadership excellence, and forward-thinking and inclusive approach to safety in the department and campus community overall. The PSC continually strives to establish a bottom-up safety culture within the department. As graduate students, they take on the responsibility of encouraging and fostering a positive outlook on safety while creating new ways to make the department safer.
The Society Committee on Education (SOCED) selects ACS Student Communities—Student Chapters (U.S.-based), International Student Chapters, and Graduate Student Organizations—to receive notable recognition based on their programs and activities, as described in their annual reports. Awards are classified as outstanding, commendable, and honorable mention. The PSC is one of 84 groups or committees to be awarded the Outstanding ACS Student Community Award.
