Four chemistry majors —John Georgiades, Kaung "Ken" Soe, Shubhanjali "Shubh" Minhas, and Sarah Olsen— have been recognized for receiving prestigious awards on the national and local scale.
John Georgiades and Ken Soe, both juniors, received the Barry Goldwater Scholarship. The Barry Goldwater Scholarship is a prestigious award that honors students who conduct research in the natural sciences, mathematics, and engineering. 413 students were selected from a field of approximately 5,000 candidates. The award was established by Congress in 1986 to honor the legacy of U.S. Sen. Barry Goldwater.
Shubh Minhas, a graduating senior, received the 2023 Harriet K. Switzer Leadership Award. The Harriet K. Switzer Leadership Award recognizes outstanding graduating senior women who have made a significant contribution to WashU and have demonstrated exceptional potential for future leadership.
Sarah Olsen, also a junior, was selected for the American Chemical Society Outstanding Junior Award. The St. Louis Section of the American Chemical Society sponsors the Outstanding Junior Award. It recognizes one outstanding junior chemistry student from each college and university in the St. Louis area based on excellence in coursework and research.
