Fireside Chat with Dr. Nan Jiang: From Washington University Chemistry PhD to BioLegend Senior Vice President at 3:00pm
In this fireside chat, Dr. Jiang will share about her time at WashU and how this has played a role in her career trajectory in industry and as a co-founder of a highly successful company. There will be time for audience members to ask Dr. Jiang questions about her career and advice for early-career scientists considering careers in biotechnology.
Nan Jiang joined BioLegend in San Diego as a co-founder and Director of Reagent Develop-ment and Production in 2002. BioLegend is a multi-billion dollar company that develops world-class, cutting-edge antibodies and reagents for biomedical research. Dr. Jiang has been Senior Vice-President of Operations since 2018 and continues in this role since BioLegend was acquired by Perkin Elmer (now Revvity) in 2021. From 2000-2002, she was the Manager of Reagent Development and Production at eBioscience (later acquired by Affymetrix which was acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific). She started her career as a scientist at BD Bioscience (formerly Pharmingen) in 1993, later becoming Manager of Process Development.
Dr. Jiang received a B.S. in Chemistry from Fudan University in Shanghai, China and a Ph.D. in Bio-Organic Chemistry from Dr. John Taylor’s group at Washington University in St. Louis before her post-doctoral training under Dr. Carl Frieden in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics at Washington University School of Medicine. In recognition of her achievements, Dr. Jiang was named San Diego’s Business Woman of the Year in 2017 and will be receiving a 2025 Distinguished Alumni Award from Washington University on Founders Day, November 15.
