Poster Printing

We strongly encourage you to allow 2 days upon submission of your file for the final poster to be printed. Although our turn-around is usually the same day, unforeseen problems may prevent the poster from being printed. We encourage you to submit posters through our webform - Chemistry Posters. Please let us know when you will be submitting the poster when you will need the poster, the final poster dimensions, and how you will pay for it. If your PI will be paying for it please include their name, Cost Center and Billing Number in your email. We cannot accept cash or check.

What type of equipment do you have?

The chemistry department has a Canon iPF8400S Model:

Max Resolution up to 2400 dpi x 1200 dpi

Media Size: Roll (42 in)

We use HP Prem Instant-dry Gloss Photo Paper (Q7995A 42"). We also have HP Heavyweight Coated paper (C6569C 42") and a Heavy Weight Vinyl Paper. The vinyl is suitable for travel and can be folded for packing in a suitcase.

What sizes are available?

The largest poster rolls that we have are 42" rolls. We cannot do 48" wide posters. If you need one, you'll have to do that elsewhere.

Most posters are printed using Powerpoint. We will print to a width of 42" and a length that maintains the correct aspect ratio. For example, if a powerpoint slide is provided that has a page setup of 30" x 40", the final print would be 42" x 56". If you require a specific size poster (e.g., 36" x 48") you must notify us with the size restraints.

We will provide a proof if requested. You should review your poster to make sure everything looks correct.  Pay special attention to the symbols and images.  Our PCs may not have the same fonts you used when you designed the poster on your system.

What are your hours of operation?

 8:00 am - 4:30 pm weekdays

How long does poster printing take?

Poster printing typically takes about an 1/2 hour if there are no problems. However, unanticipated problems may result in much longer print times. Please allow 2 days upon submission of your file for the final poster to be printed. Please give us 2 days advanced notice if you require the poster sooner.

What type of media do you offer?

We have a heavy-weight paper, Premium Instant Dry Gloss, and a Heavy Weight Vinyl paper. The vinyl paper is like cloth and can be folded and stored in a suitcase.

How much does it cost?

The cost is (per lineal foot of paper used):
Premium Instant Dry Gloss: $10.00
Heavy-Weight vinyl: $13.00

Effective October 1st, 2022

What other applications output can be printed as a poster?

If you use another application besides PowerPoint, or create the poster using a Mac, please publish the poster to a pdf and submit the pdf file.

Can I use files created on an Apple?

Yes. Please publish the files to pdf and submit that.

How should I transport my files?

If the poster is small (< 30 Mb), you may email it to poster.chemistry@wustl.edu. If you bring in your file on a USB thumb drive or CD - we should be able to read it. For large files, use http://box.wustl.edu.

Do you have tubes for poster storage and transportation?

No, we do not keep those on hand, but they can be purchased in the University's bookstore.

How do I pay for poster printing?

For payment, we send invoices to the PI on a monthly basis. We'll need the PI's contact info for our invoice (phone #, email address).

How long will my poster's colors last?

Posters are printed using UV-resistant dye and ones hanging in our halls have lasted several years without any noticeable loss of color.

Where are you located?

McMillen Chem Labs, Room 427
We are building 71 on the campus map.

Can I have my poster laminated?

We do not have the ability to do that. Below is a list of copy service providers near the Danforth campus that provide lamination services. Even if you have to print a poster here and laminate it, it will still be a fraction of what printing a poster would be elsewhere - for example, the Hi/Tec copy center charges $144 to print a 36" X 48" poster.
