Education faculty are non-tenure track faculty including Lecturers and Senior Lecturers who primarily support the Department’s mission of education and training undergraduate and graduate students. Education faculty members supervise and teach our undergraduate General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry Laboratories and other upper-level courses as well. They constantly work to keep the laboratory experiments modernized, safe, educational, and fun. Education faculty members also lecture in our General Chemistry course and direct the General Chemistry Peer-Led Team-Learning (PLTL) program as well as the General Chemistry Transition program. These Lecturers teach recitation sections for General Chemistry, including Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) style recitations which encourage collaborative learning through small group activities and problem solving. In addition to teaching the undergraduate students, the education faculty members train our graduate student Teaching Assistants (TAs) in the areas of lab safety, teaching skills, grading methods, and giving effective feedback to their students. The Education staff support the education faculty and the Department’s teaching mission.
